    Daily Market Commentary for January 28, 2008 from Millennium-Traders.Com

    At the closing bell, here is how the major indices ended the session: the DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) posted a triple digit gain of 177.29 points on the day to end the session at 12,384.46; the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) posted a triple digit gain of 150.91 points to end the session at 8,978.41; the NASDAQ posted a gain of 23.71 points for a close at 2,349.91; the S&P 500 posted a gain of 23.36 points for a close at 1,353.97 and the RUSSELL 2000 moved higher by 13.79 points to close at 702.39. The FTSE All-World Index ex-US (top Large/Mid Cap aggregate from over 2,700 stocks from the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS) which covers 90% of the world’s investable market capitalization) posted a gain of 0.01 points to close at 238.54 and the FTSE RAFI 1000 posted a gain of 105.52 points to close at 5,554.07.

    On the NYSE today, advancers came in at 2,479; decliners totaled 725; unchanged came in at 79; new highs came in at 19 and new lows came in at 37. Momentum stocks traded by active Day Traders on the NYSE today: Alliance Data Systems Corporation (ADS) shed 23.12 points with a high on the day of $43.87, a low of $39.54 for a closing price at $42.48; Inverness Medical Innovations Incorporated (IMA) shed 4.26 points with a high on the day of $50.00, a low of $46.50 for a closing price at $47.97; Precision Castparts Corporation (PCP) shed 5.87 points with a high on the day of $106.79, a low of $98.15 for a closing price at $100.75; Ambac Financial Group, Incorporated (ABK) shed 0.41 points with a high on the day of $11.89, a low of $10.25 for a closing price at $11.13; CME Group Incorporated (CME) shed 4.00 points with a high on the day of $652.74, a low of $608.69 for a closing price at $625.00; Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, Incorporated (POT) gained 6.80 points with a high on the day of $140.11, a low of $129.19 for a closing price at $139.54; Oil Services HOLDRs (OIH) gained 2.26 points with a high on the day of $167.39, a low of $160.27 for a closing price at $165.75; InterContinental Exchange, Incorporated (ICE) shed 5.09 points with a high on the day of $152.65, a low of $135.30 for a closing price at $140.25; Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR) gained 5.40 points with a high on the day of $110.40, a low of $102.38 for a closing price at $110.02; Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Incorporated (FCX) gained 1.08 points with a high on the day of $86.33, a low of $81.80 for a closing price at $85.30; Suntech Power Holdings Co. Limited (STP) shed 1.85 points with a high on the day of $51.86, a low of $48.33 for a closing price at $49.85; ITT Educational Services Incorporated (ESI) gained 3.28 points with a high on the day of $86.94, a low of $80.26 for a closing price at $85.53; NYMEX Holdings Incorporated (NMX) gained 9.34 points with a high on the day of $117.00, a low of $112.25 for a closing price at $116.50.

    On the NASDAQ today, advanced totaled 1,954; decliners totaled 1,056; unchanged came in at 109; new highs came in at 29 and new lows came in at 123. Momentum stocks traded by active Day Traders on the NASDAQ today: Mercadolibre, Incorporated (MELI) shed 11.46 points with a high on the day of $46.48, a low of $40.55 for a closing price at $42.60; YRC Worldwide Incorporated (YRCW) gained 2.78 points with a high on the day of $17.36, a low of $15.46 for a closing price at $16.08; Google Incorporated (GOOG) shed 10.42 points with a high on the day of $572.24, a low of $548.60 for a closing price at $555.98; Baidu.com Incorporated (BIDU) shed 8.15 points with a high on the day of $303.71, a low of $284.50 for a closing price at $291.32; Apple Incorporated (AAPL) closed with a high on the day of $136.30, a low of $126.45 for a closing price at $130.01; First Solar Incorporated (FSLR) gained 5.72 points with a high on the day of $180.43, a low of $164.36 for a closing price at $177.00; Matria Healthcare Incorporated (MATR) shed 0.02 points with a high on the day of $35.50, a low of $30.41 for a closing price at $30.67; Bucyrus International Incorporated (BUCY) gained 5.18 points with a high on the day of $85.88, a low of $80.00 for a closing price at $85.30; Wynn Resorts Limited (WYNN) gained 6.31 points with a high on the day of $111.27, a low of $103.00 for a closing price at $110.33; Intuitive Surgical, Incorporated (ISRG) gained 8.57 points with a high on the day of $277.86, a low of $262.09 for a closing price at $277.57; Central European Media Enterprises Limited (CETV) shed 2.09 points with a high on the day of $90.91, a low of $85.44 for a closing price at $88.97.

    U.S. December New Home Sales fell 4.7% to 604,000 compared to consensus of 650,000 and U.S. November New Home Sales were revised lower to 634,000 from 647,000. Dallas Fed January Manufacturing Production Index came in at 17.7 versus December drop by 19.1 and Dallas Fed January Business Activity fell 20.7 versus December drop by 23.9.

    Commodities Markets
    The trend was mostly higher across the board today for the Energy Sector: Light crude moved higher today by $0.47 to close at $91.18 a barrel; Heating Oil moved lower today by $0.04 to close at $2.47 a gallon; Natural Gas moved higher today by $0.07 to close at $8.03 per million BTU and Unleaded Gas moved higher today by $0.01 to close at $2.33 a gallon.

    Metals Markets ended the session higher across the board today: Gold moved nicely higher today by $16.40 to close at $927.10 a Troy ounce; Silver moved higher today by $0.26 to close at $16.75 per Troy ounce; Platinum moved strongly higher today by $52.90 to close at $1,733.00 per Troy ounce and Copper moved higher by $0.01 today to close at $3.19 per pound.

    On the Livestock and Meat Markets, the trend was mostly higher across the board today: Lean Hogs ended the day higher by $1.55 to close at $63.50; Pork Bellies ended the day higher by $2.35 to close at $88.25; Live Cattle ended the day lower by $0.55 at $93.83 and Feeder Cattle ended the day higher by $0.58 at $102.68.

    Other Commodities: Corn ended the day higher today by $4.00 at $502.25 and Soybeans moved nicely higher today by $10.75 to end the session at $1,254.50.

    Bonds were lower across the board today: 2 year bond moved lower by 2/32 to close at 101 29/32; 5 year bond moved lower by 6/32 to close at 103 23/32 today; 10 year bond moved lower by 12/32 to close at 105 8/32 and the 30 year bond moved lower by 19/32 to close at 111 19/32 on the day.

    The e-mini Dow ended the session today at 12,371 with a gain of 135 points on the trading session. The total Dow Exchange Volume for the day came in at 208,995014which are comprised of Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange.     The end of day results for the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) which is comprised of the total Exchange Volume for Futures and Options (EVFO) including Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange ended the day at 5,693,831; Open Interest for Futures moved lower by 226,285 points to close at 10,381,605; the Open Interest for Options moved lower by 586,820 points to close at 8,543,117 and the Cleared Only closed higher by 60 point to close at 21,898 for a total Open Interest on the day of 18,946,620 for a total Change on the day with a loss of 813,045 points.
