    Earnings

    Today's reports on earnings gave stocks a boost after three sessions worth of losses. (Read more at millennium-traders.com)

    Economic data released today:

    U.S. NFIB December Small Business Index 92.6 versus 93.2 in November.

    Redbook:
    U.S. Retail Sales First Week of January fell 0.5% versus December; U.S. Retail Sales First Week of Jan rose 2.8% versus January a Year-Ago; U.S. Retail Sales rose 2.8% Week Ended January 8 versus a Year Ago.

    U.S. ICSC/Goldman Sachs Chain Store Sales fell 3.2% in Week of January 8; U.S. ICSC/Goldman Sachs Chain Store Sales rose 3.5% on Year.

    Wholesale Inventories (MoM):
