    JPMorgan got stocks rallying today when the bank released their third quarter profit results, beating analysts’ expectations. (Read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

    Economic data released today:

    MBA [Mortgage Bankers Association] Mortgage Applications:
    U.S. MBA Market Index fell 1.8% at 742.9; compared to last week 756.3; U.S. MBA Purchase Index fell 5.0% at 290.9; compared to last week 306.1; U.S. MBA Refinance Index fell 0.1% at 3374.6; compared to last Week 3377.1.

    Retail Sales:
    U.S. September Retail & Food Sales fell 1.5%; compared to consensus of a decrease by 2.1%; September Auto Sales fell 10.4%; drop is biggest in four years; U.S. September Retail & Food Sales Excluding Autos rose 0.5%; August Retail & Food Sales Revised to rise 2.2% from an increase by 2.7%.

    Import Price Index:
    U.S. September Import Prices rose 0.1%; compared to consensus of an increase by 0.3%; U.S. September Non-Petroleum Import Prices rose 0.6%; U.S. September Petroleum Import Prices fell 1.8%.

    Business Inventories:
    U.S. August Business Inventories fell 1.5%; expected to fall 1.2%; August Motor Vehicle Inventories fell 7.9%; biggest drop since 2001.

    FOMC [Federal Open Market Committee] Meeting Minutes:
    FOMC differed on inflation, size of MBS purchases – Minutes; some members mulled increasing $1.3T MBS purchases; one member mulled cutting $1.3T MBS purchases; uncertainty about likely strength of upturn.
