    Daily Market Commentary for December 17, 2009

    Leading Economic Indicators

    Conference Board reported today that its index of leading economic indicators rose, November marks the eighth straight monthly rise. (Read more at http://www.millennium-traders.com/news/marketcommentarydecember1709.aspx)

    Economic data released today:

    Initial Jobless Claims:
    U.S. Jobless Claims for week of December 12 rose 7K to 480K compared to survey of a decrease by 9K; U.S. Continuing Claims for week of December 5 rose 5K to 5,186,000; U.S. Jobless Claims Revised for week of December 5 to 473K from 474K.

    Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index:
    Philadelphia Fed December Business Index 20.4 versus November 16.7; Philadelphia Fed December Business Index Expected 16.4; Philadelphia Fed December Price Paid 33.8 versus November 14.9; Philadelphia Fed December Price Received fell 1.8 versus November decrease by 1.5; Philadelphia Fed December Employment 6.3 versus November decrease by 0.5; Philadelphia Fed December New Orders 6.5 versus November 14.8; Philadelphia Fed December Shipments 15.3 versus November 15.7; Philadelphia Fed December Delivery Times 6.2 versus November decrease by 12.7; Philadelphia Fed December Inventories fell 7.4 versus November decrease by 17.3.

    U.S. Conference Board Leading Index:
    November Leading Index rose 0.9%; November Coincident Index rose 0.2%; November Lagging Index fell 0.4%.
