    Daily Market Commentary for December 14, 2010

    Retail Sales Data

    Investors were in good spirits thanks to better than expected retail sales data. (Read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

    Economic data released today:

    Retail Sales (MoM):
    October Retail & Food Sales Revised to rise 1.7% from an increase by 1.2%; U.S. November Retail & Food Sales Excluding-Autos rose 1.2%; U.S. November Retail & Food Sales rose 0.8%; Compared to Consensus of an increase by 0.5%; Summary from EconomicIndicators.gov: Retail sales in November 2010 were $378.7B, an increase of 0.8% from October and an increase of 7.7% from November 2009. Excluding autos, retail sales were $311.9B, up 1.2% from last month and up 6.7% from last year.

    PPI (MoM):
    U.S. October PPI Unrevised at +0.4%; U.S. November Passenger Car Prices rose 1.7%; U.S. November PPI Energy Prices rose 2.1%; U.S. November PPI Crude Goods rose 0.6; Core rose 3.1%; U.S. November PPI Intermediate Goods rose 1.1%; Core rose 0.7%; U.S. November PPI Excluding Food & Energy rose 0.3%; Compared to Consensus of an increase by 0.3%; U.S. November Producer Prices rose 0.8%; Compared to Consensus of an increase by 0.6%.

    Business Inventories (MoM):
    U.S. October Business Inventories rose 0.7%; was expected to rise 1.0%; Summary EconomicIndicators.gov: Business inventories rose 0.7 percent in October 2010 from the previous month and up 6.9 percent from October 2009. Sales rose 1.4 percent from September and 9.3 percent from a year ago.

    FOMC Interest Rate Decision:
    Fed Funds to Stay Exceptionally Low for Extended Period; Fed Keeps Fed Funds Range Unchanged at 0.0% to 0.25%; to Regularly Review Pace of Securities Purchases; Underlying Inflation Trending Downward; Progress on Recovery 'Disappointingly Slow'; Long-Term Inflation Expectations Stable; Housing Sector Remains Depressed; Business Spending Decelerating Compared to Earlier; Employers Remain Reluctant to Add to Payrolls; Household Spending Increasing at 'Moderate Pace'; to Continue Treasury Securities Purchases; Economic Recovery too Slow to Dent Unemployment; Economic Recovery is continuing; Leaves Discount Rate Unchanged at 0.75%; FOMC Voted 10-1 for Fed Funds Rate Action.
